Today is a big day! Today, tHRive Law & Consulting turns one. In just the past year:
- The Department of Labor readied a new overtime rule only to have it temporarily (and now permanently) blocked
- Sexual orientation was included in the definition of “sex” in the discrimination prohibitions of Title VII (in some jurisdictions)
- The EEOC readied new harassment guidance that may change how employers train supervisors and employees – all before the news was dominated by stories of sexual harassment from prominent companies
- The Office of Management and Budget blocked the pay reporting of the EEO-1
- Cities enacted new scheduling laws, minimum wages, and sick and safe time laws mandating paid leave for employees
- HiQ Labs preliminarily won a court battle over the mountains of data housed on LinkedIn that could change how people analytics is done in nearly every HR department
- Employers struggled with what do with employees who engaged in extreme speech or behavior in the wake of the November 2016 election
- The EEOC lost a battle over its wellness rule
- We all learned some leadership lessons from our nation’s capitol
- And, tHRive Law & Consulting launched.
Human resources and employment law are ever-changing and exciting. Our work touches nearly everyone, making it incredibly meaningful and challenging. This is why I love it. I can’t think of another area of business or law I’d rather be in.
tHRive Law & Consulting made it through one of the most significant milestones of any start-up – the first year. I could not have done it without the support of so many and the confidence of my HR tribe. For that, I am eternally grateful. Thank you!
Now, onto the challenges of year two!
